5 Week Online Engineering Curriculum

Looking for a fabulous online curriculum to introduce engineering and the engineering design process to your students?  

With a focus on grades 5 to 8, this course is designed for both remote learning and in the classroom. Students can access the lessons remotely and share evidence of their progress on assignments.

In this 5 week course, students will be introduced to engineering and appreciate the variety of ways engineers contribute to  society. Students will learn how problem solving is the link between all the types of engineers. As students are introduced to the National Academy of Engineering’s 14 Grand Challenges, they will learn how engineers are focusing on some of the big problems facing our world today. Each week students will delve into the engineering design process to structure problem solving. 

This introductory course takes a closer look at the career of a civil engineer. Students will hear from experts in the field and discover concrete links civil engineering has to everyday life and its impacts on the health and safety of our world. 

During the 5 weeks, students will use the CAD program, FabMaker Studio to design and fabricate solutions to challenges that will be shared with and iterated on by classmates.

Students will also explore thinking creatively - another skill engineers hone in their practice -  as they tackle challenges and work collaboratively with students.
